Living the single life...

So after living on my own for 3 years in July.... I've discovered there are many great things I've learned to do being single. Things I would have NEVER thought I'd try if I had a man around the house.... so I decided to come up with this list to remind myself that even though at times it may be lonely.... that it's okay and I have come so far since I was a 25 year old scared out of her wits buying a home...

So here it goes!

  1. I remember the first time I had to mow my lawn. I could NOT get the mower to start for the life of me.... I was in tears of frustration when I finally asked a neighbor if they could take a look. Turns out... my spark plug was disconnected. So he plugged it back in and it started immediately! I felt so dumb, but excited that it wasn't anything more!
  2. When we had some strong wind storms, it blew shingles off my room, enough so that I had roofing companies stopping by all the time and it was so obnoxious. So I called my insurance company, they sent me a check for the repairs- I called a roofing company that I was referred to and $500 later, I had a new roof!
  3. I learned how to power-wash my house
  4. I discovered that I LOVE gardening! I have planted 2 4 new shrubs and several flowers since I've moved in. I hope to one day get a fence around my backyard so I can plant more (I've been having trouble with deer eating the ones that were planted before I moved in!)
  5. I sanded and spraypainted an old patio table and chairs to look brand new. (Sad times- the table had a chunk chip off already since last summer.... I think I'm going to resort to using a table cloth when I actually use it!
  6. I've installed a bathroom cabinet, several curtain rods and hung many pictures frames by myself!
  7. I painted most of my house on my own. (My parents helped touch up the kitchen and my bedroom for me!)
  8. I can de-clog a drain with a little drain-o in 15 minutes flat!
  9. I can confidently use a weed eater now, without fear that it's going to chop my feet off. lol (C'mon.. it's a legitimate fear, right?)
  10. I can fix a hole in the wall with a little wall putty and paint!
  11. Changing a shower head= no problem!
  12. Change the air filter= EASY!
  13. Install a brand new thermostat= DONE. (successfully I might add!)
  14. Fix a loose door hinge= Check!
  15. Change a toilet seat= Easy peazy- lemon squeazy! (sorry, the kdg teacher came out in me!)
Now onto things I have not yet done, but want to learn how to do with the help of my mahjah and fahjah!
  1. Change some light fixtures... (my ceiling fans are noisy and out dated... and I have GOLD plated bathroom lights and HATE THEM.)
  2. Fix my mailbox so it won't wobble when I open and close it.
  3. Change the wheels on my lawn mower.
and....
4. Make a stepping stone patio off my porch stairs with some landscaping around it! Like this:
